Crown and veneers

Crown or veneer is the dilemma faced by many when choosing the best way to restore the smile’s former glory.

We, at iDentity Clinic, have the expertise to help you make the right choice for you. Our fully licensed, highly qualified dentists can provide the perfect medical assistance and successfully perform both procedures with outstanding results.

A dental crown, popularly known as a cap, is a fixed prosthetic work cemented over a tooth. Crowns last for many years if are properly cared for.

Crowns are ideally to repair individual teeth that have been damaged by a large filling or by decay. A large crack or a broken tooth will certainly require a crown too. Obviously, there are other instances when a crown is a sound treatment option and the specialist dentist will advise you accordingly :

  • A root filling needs a crown to protect what is left of the natural tooth;
  • A bridge or denture needs to be firmly yet esthetically held in place;
  • Choose your crown

    iDentity Clinic specialist dentists and estheticians can help you choose what is right for you, based on several criteria: medical needs, esthetical requirements and price. [Click here for a full price quotation]

    There are many types of crowns, based on the materials they are made from:

  • Ceramic/porcelain – made of porcelain-based material close to the teeth’s natural color, they are mostly used for restoring front teeth as they have a natural look and blend easily with the rest;
  • Porcelain - fused to zirconium - extraordinarily tough, more robust than porcelain crown, biocompatible, translucent enough to be similar to natural teeth;
  • Porcelain-fused to metal – this crown is stronger, more durable and gives a better bond than the ceramic one, as it is fused to a metal structure.
  • Gold alloys –made of gold, copper and other metals, it provide a strong bond to the tooth, it doesn't fracture and it doesn’t wear away the flesh of tooth, so it may be a wise choice if you grind your teeth during sleep. However, sometimes gold alloys crowns are used as a fashion statement.
  • Base metal alloys - made of non-noble metals that are highly resistant to corrosion, the crown offers a very strong bond, a fully functional mastication at a very affordable price.
  • Treatment

    Crown treatment requires at least two visits to the dentist. During the first one, the dental team will work on the tooth and will take the impressions required for the crown and choose the shade color of your tooth. Until the second visit, one will be fitted with a temporary crown. The permanent crown will be fitted and adjusted during the second visit.

    The veneer is a thin layer (roughly 0.2 millimeter) of porcelain or a naturally looking “composite material” that will be laid over the front surface of a tooth. The technique is similar to putting a false nail over the natural one.

    The veneer is a sound option when attempting to repair chipped or thinly cracked teeth or to improve their color. The specialist dentist may also recommend veneers to close small gaps or to improve the position of slightly misaligned teeth.

    The veneer treatment will make the teeth look healthier and whiter. You will have a new, more confident and shinier smile with minimum intervention on the superficial layer of your natural teeth.

    At iDentity Clinic we use only top quality thin veneers and the best and the strongest adhesives so the teeth will need no or very little preparation. Our specialist dentists and estheticians will advise you on the best veneer treatment based on medical grounds, esthetical requirements and price. [Click here for a full price quotation]

    The veneer treatment requires two visits. During the first visit the specialist doctor will prepare the tooth and choose the color shade. The preparation phase consists in removing a thin layer of the outer enamel surface of the tooth, in order to insure that the veneer will align with the other teeth. Then one will take an impression [i.e a mould] of the teeth and later send it to the dental technician for manufacturing the veneers.

    During the second visit, the veneers will be permanently attached to the teeth. You will be able to see the veneer on your tooth to make sure you are happy with it before they will be permanently bonded.
